Concern is being expressed about the increasing use of Market Harborough’s Food Bank.

Over 2,000 people – including nearly 800 children – were helped by the Jubilee Food Bank last year, with 964 referrals made to the volunteer service which helps people in food crisis.

New figures show nearly 20,000 meals were provided in 2019 – the biggest number since the service was set-up in 2012 – thanks to the generosity of people who donated items and the dedicated volunteers who run it.

Harborough Councillor Phil Knowles has spoken of his shock at the figures and says a ‘collaborative’ effort is needed to deal with the issue.

People are referred to the Foodbank by various agencies, including the Job Centre and Social Services.
