Concern Mounts Over ‘New Town’ Plan

Around 200 people attended a meeting called over concerns a new town could be built near Great Glen.

The Stretton Hall site was identified by the government as a possible location for up to 4,000 homes, as part of its ‘new homes accelerator’ scheme.

Conservative MPs Neil O’Brien and Alicia Kearns organised the meeting at St Luke’s Church in Thurnby, after expressing their own concerns about the announcement.

It is not yet known if the site will be identified for development by Harborough District Council in its new Local Plan, which is currently being drawn up.

Some of the area would also fall partly into Oadby & Wigston Borough Council’s jurisdiction.

Cllr Simon Galton, Harborough District Council’s planning portfolio holder also spoke at the meeting.
