Community Rallies To Help Flood Victims

There has been an outpouring of support for those affected by the severe flooding in Great Glen on Monday.

A team of over 70 volunteers have spent two days helping with the big clean-up at the Italian Greyhound restaurant, where the flood water caused thousands of pounds worth of damage.

Owner Cimi Kazazi – who was hailed a hero after rescuing a woman from her submerged car outside – told HFM the response has been amazing:

Members of Glen Villa FC have been helping out at the restaurant in the village together with other volunteers

Over 20 members of Glen Villa Football Club have been helping out in village, along with other villagers.

Players, volunteers and committee members assisted with the clean-up at the restaurant and at residents’ homes.

Several flats were badly damaged by flood water at an assisted housing scheme in Great Glen

Major damage was caused when flood water flowed into ground floor flats at the Brookfield assisted living scheme on Bindleys Lane.

Residents have been forced to move out, either to stay with family or into temporary accommodation.

In just a few days, over £1,000 has been donated to a Crowdfunding appeal launched to help them by the family of resident Daisy Cooke, whose flat was one of those affected.

Daisy has lost virtually all her belongings, including priceless sentimental items.
