Charity Pleads For More Time In Current Base

A Market Harborough charity facing an uncertain future is appealing for more time in its current base.

Shopmobility, which hires out scooters and mobility aids, has been given notice to leave Roman Way Community Centre at the end of October and so far has been unable to find any alternative premises.

Leicestershire County Council is to close the centre and sell-off the site.

The charity has asked the authority for the extension because a community group is set to try and buy the centre, so it can be turned into a creative and arts hub.

After the building was registered as an ‘Asset Of Community Value’ the group will be given six months to prepare a bid.

Shopmobility wants to be able to continue using the centre during that time and if the community group is successful would also continue to be based there.

The council says it will consider the request.
