Callous Trickers Prey On 83-Year-Old Woman

Heartless tricksters have stolen over £3,000 from an elderly pensioner, after preying on her in the car park of Market Harborough’s Waitrose store.

A man and woman distracted the 83-year- old lady from Welford after she got into her car and was about to leave the car park, by asking for directions to the nearest hospital.

Another man then went into the boot and stole her purse from a bag.

Within half an hour of the incident – just after 2pm on Wednesday – £500 was withdrawn from her account and her credit card used to buy £2,700 worth of travellers cheques.

The victim has been left badly shaken by the ordeal, with her family saying she now questions her trust in people.

It’s thought the thieves had watched her put her pin number in as she was paying for her groceries.
