Business Wrecked By Storm Ciara

Owners of the Canvass Café in Great Oxendon have been left devastated after the marquee that houses the business was wrecked by the high winds winds yesterday.

Many of the items inside, including tables and chairs, crockery and electrical appliances, were also damaged beyond repair by Storm Ciara.

Jen Lyon, who owns the cafe at Waterloo Cottage Farm, off Harborough Road, with business partner Lara Collis, spoke to Hfm:

Work to salvage items continues today as a full assessment of the damage is carried out.  It’s hoped the cafe will be able to open again in the future.

Highway teams worked through the night to remove trees and debris from roads and Police are thanking farmers who have been assisting.

Officers received 20 reports of trees blocking roads across the Harborough District and in Kibworth the fire service were called to remove chimney pots from the top of a building on the High Street before they fell.

Following yesterday’s heavy rainfall, the Environment Agency has issued a Flood Alert for the River Welland through Market Harborough and the surrounding area.
