Staff Threatened By Raiders At Tesco Express

Staff members were threatened by a gang of four burglars who raided Tesco Express in Market Harborough late last night – stealing a large quantity of cigarettes.

Police say two workers fled through a back door but were confronted by one of the men, who broke one of their mobile phones, although none of staff were injured.

It’s thought the gang- who were wearing balaclavas – used a claw hammer to smash through the window of the front door of the shop on Rockingham Road at 11.45pm – just forty five minutes after it shut.

The gang fled in a Black Audi.

Detective Sergeant George Fraser, from Leicestershire Police’s Complex Crime team, said: “This was a terrifying ordeal for the staff involved.

“As part of our enquiries, we’d like to speak to anyone who saw the suspects forcing their way into the supermarket or who saw them leaving the scene. Any information you can provide will help with our investigation.”

A spokesperson for Tesco said : “We are assisting Police with enquiries and supporting colleagues who were in the store at the time.”
