Arrest After Serious Crash Near Harborough Village

A woman has been arrested after a driver was seriously injured in a crash between Wigston and Newton Harcourt yesterday morning.

The 57-year-old is being held on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving while unfit through drink or drugs and driving while over the prescribed limit.

The collision happened on Newton Lane, close to the boarding kennels, just after 11.15am and involved a grey Volkswagen T-Roc and a black Hyundai Tucson.

The driver of the VW – a woman in her 20s – was taken to hospital to be treated for serious injuries and is continuing to receive treatment.

The driver of the Hyundai was also taken to hospital to be treated for injuries that are not life-threatening or life-changing.

Detective Constable Emma Mitchell, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU), said: “Our investigation to establish the circumstances that led to the collision occurring is in its early stages and I’d urge anyone who can help to get in touch.

“I would like to speak to anyone who was in the area and has a dashcam or who saw the collision occur. If you saw either vehicle prior to it happening, then please contact police too.”
