Arrest After Man Seen With ‘Rifle’ In Market Harborough

A man has been arrested in Market Harborough after reports someone was outside a house armed with a rifle.

He was detained on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, after armed police officers were sent to Gladstone Street this afternoon.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police said: “Police received a call at 2pm today (Friday 21 November) to report a man seen outside an address in Gladstone Street, Market Harborough believed to be in possession of a rifle.

“In the interests of public and officers’ safety, armed officers were deployed to the scene.

“A 50-year-old man was detained by officers outside an address and arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.”

“Enquiries are continuing the incident as the man remains in police custody.”
