Armed Police Deployed After Youths Confronted By Man With Gun

Armed Police were deployed and a Police helicopter scrambled after two youths were confronted by a man holding a shotgun in a field in Market Harborough yesterday.

Officers carried out a search of the area, off Northampton Road, with the assistance of the National Police Air Service, after being alerted just before 5pm, although the man was not located.

Leicestershire Police has updated its initial statement provided to Hfm:

A spokesman said: “Initial enquiries have been carried out which confirmed the man wasn’t the landowner and the youths had permission to be on the land.

“It was reported the man was holding a shotgun and told the group to leave the field as it was private land.

“In the interest of public and police safety, armed officers were deployed to carry out a search of the area. Assistance was also provided by the National Police Air Service (NPAS).”

Enquiries into the incident are continuing.
