Lack Of Proper Toilets Proving Real Inconvenience

There are still no permanent toilet facilities at Market Harborough Railway station – 15 months after a major upgrade costing £53m was completed.

Passengers have had to use temporary toilets in a portacabin outside the front of the station ever since, and are complaining about how long it is taking for proper toilets to be available again.

Network Rail say building work to create the new facilities won’t start until next spring.

Harborough district councillor and rail campaigner, Phil Knowles, told Hfm people are fed up of waiting:

Gavin Crook, Principal Programme Sponsor for Network Rail, said: “We understand the frustration for passengers using Market Harborough station whilst the permanent toilets are closed.

“We’re working closely with East Midlands Railway to finalise the design for completely new, improved facilities.

“As well as demolishing the old building, we need to consider other improvements in the station such as future overhead lines, as well as the best way to carry out this work whilst keeping disruption for people using the station to a minimum.

“We are looking to begin improvement work on site in Spring 2021.

“Our teams will also be improving the temporary toilets for passengers in the coming months.”
