Additional Plan Submitted For New 24-Hour Gym

A company wanting to open a new 24-hour gym in Market Harborough has submitted further plans to the district council.

PureGym is hoping to move into the former Carpetright premises on Rockingham Road and is awaiting a decision on whether it can operate the venue 24-hours a day.

It is now also requesting permission to install new entrance doors, new fire doors and a new air conditioning system.

PureGym wants to open in the former Carpetright store

The company, which runs over 350 gyms across the UK, announced plans to open the gym in October after Carpetright went into administration and closed its store in July.

A member of the public has lodged an objection to the plan, saying the 44-space car park on the site – shared with the neighbouring Halfords store – is not big enough to accommodate customers of the gym and retailer.

However, planners acting on behalf of PureGym say their analysis show it would be adequate.

Leicestershire County Council Highways has also requested more details regarding car parking.

Another objection to the gym plan has been raised by a planning company on behalf of an unnamed client.

Harborough District Council is expected to consider the plans within the next few weeks.
