Action Taken After Noise From Covid Test Centre Leaves People Unable To Sleep

Action has been taken after noise from a power generator at the new Covid-19 test centre in Market Harborough left near-by residents unable to sleep.

Those living on Monk Close, on the Blackberry Grange Estate, complained to Harborough Council, comparing the constant drone and vibration to ‘like having an HGV parked up outside their homes with its engine running.’

Yesterday afternoon Environmental Health officers visited the site, which is on the other side of Northampton Road, in the car park of Harborough Leisure Centre, and now high powered lighting will now be switched off overnight to reduce the generator noise level.

A spokesperson for Harborough District Council told Hfm: “We have spoken to the site manager regarding this issue and he has agreed to reduce the lighting level overnight by switching off the high powered lighting which are linked to the generators which should reduce generator noise levels.

“Our Environmental Health Officers will continue to monitor the situation.”

Homeowners are thanking the Council and operators of the site for their quick solution to the issue.

The Department for Health and Social Care, who are running the test centre for the next six months, have been approached for comment.
