New Housing Estate Earmarked For Near HMP Gartree

Over 150 new houses could be built near Gartree Prison.

The Ministry Of Justice is set to sell land it owns off Gallowfield Road for the new estate.

Details were revealed at a meeting last night with around 60 residents, hosted by Harborough Council at Foxton Primary School.

The development could be completed by Midlands Rural Housing – who are to undertake a housing needs survey ahead of any planning application.

The MoJ say no decisions have yet been made as to the sale of the land.

A spokesman told Hfm: “We have identified some land next to HMP Gartree that is not required and have been discussing future options for this land with Harborough District Council.”
