War Veteran Devastated After Losing Medals

Written by on 13th November 2018

A Harborough war veteran has left devastated after losing his cherished medals at the Remembrance Event on The Square on Sunday.

91-year-old John Smith, also known as Jack, formally of Great Bowden, but now living in Great Oxendon, was awarded them his service in the Merchant Navy during World War Two.

They dropped off his blazer while he was in the town centre with his family.

An appeal has been launched to find the medals so they can be returned to Mr Smith.

It was initially thought they had been found and handed into Police, but this information was incorrect.

His granddaughter, Jo Hill, spoke to Hfm’s Nick Shaw:

Anyone with information about where the medals should call Hfm on 01858 464666.
