Leicestershire Police and Leicestershire Trading Standards have carried out a week long campaign aimed at disrupting and stopping rogue traders and aggressive doorstep sellers.

‘Operation Rogue Trader’ targeted those people who choose to exploit their customers, often the elderly and vulnerable, by doing low quality or dangerous work often charging inflated prices and bullying or threatening customers into agreeing to the work.

bThe campaign centred around an operation on the A6 near Market Harborough, where a series of checks on vehicles in partnership with trading standards and other agencies.

15 vehicles were stopped – one was seized for not having insurance/vehicle excise licence and the driver was reported for the offences and two further vehicles were issued with immediate prohibition notices for defective tyres.

dPC Tony Bunker, who ran the operation, said: “Rogue Trader is really important for us, it sends out a clear message that we have a zero tolerance policy towards rogue trading and the exploitation of vulnerable people.

“We were able to seize a van for having no tax or insurance as well as a number of other motoring offences including a faulty fuel cap and a bald tyre. Working closely with the DVLA meant we were able to get this dangerous vehicle off the road.”
