A6 Roundabout Upgrade Planned In Kibworth

Long-awaited improvements to a busy A6 junction in Kibworth are set to go ahead next summer, almost a decade after they were first recommended.
Leicestershire County Council plans to spend an estimated £1.3 million improving the layout of the Wistow Road roundabout, with the aim of improving traffic flow and reducing congestion.
The work is due to start in summer 2027, with completion expected in winter. The scheme will be funded through Section 106 contributions from developers.

The council says the roundabout currently operates over capacity at peak times, leading to long queues.
The improvements were first identified in a 2017 study looking at the impact of development in the area. Proposals were reviewed in 2021 using updated traffic data, with the Wistow Road roundabout identified as the priority for investment.
The work will also included widened footways and cycleways.
There have been calls for improvements at other junctions onto the A6 in the village and Councillor Phil King, who represents the Kibworths, says a bypass is still needed and should be given urgent consideration:
The council says the roundabout work is a critical first step in wider improvements along the A6 in Kibworth. It will review the impact on the surrounding road network once the scheme is complete.
Some disruption is expected during construction, although the council says this will be minimised through a traffic management plan prepared in advance.
The current cost estimate is £1.3 million, but this could change as the detailed design work progresses.
