FCC Awarded Harborough’s New £50m Environmental Services Contract

Harborough District Council has awarded a new £50.5 million environmental services contract to FCC Recycling UK Ltd.

FCC has provided environmental services for the district since 2009 and will continue delivering waste collection, street cleansing and grounds maintenance under the new contract from 1 April 2027.

The initial seven-year agreement includes a number of service improvements, including weekly food waste collections, enhanced street cleansing and increased resources to tackle fly-tipping.

There will also be new vehicles and equipment, tighter performance standards and a range of environmental and sustainability initiatives.

Councillor David Page, Cabinet Lead for Neighbourhood Services, said the new contract would provide “reliable, resilient and effective environmental services” while delivering wider benefits for local communities.

FCC has also committed to providing wider community benefits, including support for young people, apprenticeships and work experience, improvements to parks and public spaces, and increased reuse and sustainability projects.

FCC’s Head of Municipal Collections and Streetscene, Brian Ashby, said the company was “delighted” to have been awarded the contract and looked forward to working with the council for many years to come.

The contract follows an 18-month procurement process, where bids were assessed on quality, price and social value, with FCC achieving the highest overall score.
