New EV Charging Hub On Track For Completion

Work to install an electric vehicle charging hub at The Commons car park in Market Harborough is on schedule to be completed by the end of this week.

The facility will have 12 11kW charging points beneath a solar canopy.

However, Harborough District Council says the hub may not open immediately after construction is completed, as it is waiting for an electricity supply meter to be installed.

The section of the car park next to the Co-op is currently closed while the work is carried out.

A council spokesperson said: “The Hub development remains on track, with construction expected to be completed by 19 September.

“While the building itself will be finished, there may be a delay before it can be brought into use as we are awaiting a date from our energy provider to install the electricity supply meter.

“At this stage, we do not have confirmation of when this connection will take place.”

The council says contractors will work to make as much of the car park available for public use as possible while commissioning arrangements are completed.

The charging hub forms part of a wider £2.4 million programme led by Harborough District Council to expand electric vehicle charging infrastructure across Leicestershire in partnership with neighbouring councils.
