Controversial Clarence Street One-Way Plans ‘Paused’

Plans for a controversial one-way system on Clarence Street in Market Harborough have been put on hold.

Leicestershire County Council had been due to introduce the trial later this month in an attempt to reduce congestion, but says the scheme has now been paused while it considers the next steps.

Residents had previously raised concerns about the proposed northbound traffic flow, saying they believed the system should operate southbound instead.

Plans for a controversial one-way system on Clarence Street in Market Harborough have been put on hold.

No reason has been given for the scheme being put on hold, with a council spokesperson saying: “The proposed trial one-way scheme for Clarence Street is currently paused whilst the council considers next steps. A further update will be provided to residents in due course.”

The decision comes as wider transport improvement work along Rockingham Road is set to get under way this week.

The nearly £2 million programme aims to reduce congestion, improve walking and cycling routes and modernise junctions.

The first phase will take place at the Gores Lane junction and will include the installation of an additional lane where it meets Rockingham Road.
