Harborough Town Sign Former Championship Striker

Harborough Town Football Club have announced the signing of experienced striker Britt Assombalonga ahead of their first-ever season in the National League North.

The 33-year-old arrives at the Beehive with more than 500 senior appearances to his name, including spells in the Championship and League One.

Assombalonga has played for a number of clubs during his career, including Watford, Southend United, Peterborough United, Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough, as well as most recently playing in Turkey for Antalyaspor.

The DR Congo international scored more than 180 senior career goals during his time in the English Football League and established himself as one of the Championship’s most feared forwards.

He now joins Mitch Austin’s squad as the Bees prepare for their first campaign at National League North level, bringing a wealth of experience to the club.

Speaking after completing the move, Assombalonga said the conversations he had with manager Mitch played a key role in his decision.

He said: “After speaking to the Gaffer and hearing the way he spoke about the club, the staff and the players, the move made perfect sense for me at this stage of my career.

“From the minute I stepped into the building, everyone has made me feel welcome, and it was those experiences during pre-season that helped me make up my mind.

“We will take every game as it comes, and I, along with the rest of the lads, will give everything we have to help the club succeed.”

Manager Mitch Austin said he was excited to work with the striker and help him enjoy his football at the Beehive.

He said: “Since he walked through the door, he has shown himself to be a really enthusiastic person who loves football.

“He is someone we are really excited to work with.”

The signing marks another major milestone in Harborough Town’s rise through the football pyramid as the club prepares for its first National League North season.
