Market Harborough Shop To Shut After 35 Years Of Trading

A High Street shop that has served Market Harborough for more than three decades is to close, with seven jobs set to be lost.
The TG Jones store on the High Street – formerly WH Smith – has been trading in the town since 1991.
Staff, some of whom have worked at the books and stationery store for many years and have more than 75 years’ service between them, were told of the decision earlier this week.
‘Closing Down’ signs have now been placed across the shopfront with the store expected to close in early September.

The closure is believed to be part of a wider restructuring programme by the chain’s owner, Modella Capital, which bought WH Smith’s High Street business and rebranded the stores last year.
It is understood the company has also been unable to reach an agreement with the building’s landlord over renewing the lease.
The site has been home to a stationery and newsagent’s business for many decades. Before WH Smith opened its doors, the premises were occupied by the long-established retailer A. Preedy & Sons.
The forthcoming closure has prompted a wave of disappointment from shoppers, some of whom spoke to HFM:
