Town Centre Apartment Plans Stalled As Site Listed For Sale

The future of a planned apartment development in Market Harborough town centre has been thrown into doubt after the site was put back on the market.

A vacant plot on Roman Way, close to Church Square, is now being advertised for sale with an asking price of £250,000.

The site was created last year when a derelict historic property dating back to the 1600s was demolished to make way for a proposed apartment scheme.

The building, which had previously been used as a restaurant, was bought by a developer after Harborough District Council abandoned plans to convert it into temporary accommodation for homeless people.

At the time, the developer said a planning application for new apartments would be submitted following demolition and site clearance.

Harborough District Council sold the property for £215,000 after deciding its own housing scheme was no longer financially viable, having originally bought it for £265,000, resulting in a £50,000 loss.

With the cleared site now back on the market, the future of the proposed residential development is uncertain.
