Hosepipe Ban Texts Cause Confusion in Market Harborough

Market Harborough residents are being reassured they are not affected by the hosepipe ban introduced by Anglian Water over the weekend.
Some people in the town have received text messages from Anglian Water warning about the restrictions, despite Market Harborough’s drinking water being supplied by Severn Trent Water.
Anglian Water provides wastewater services in the town and has introduced a hosepipe ban in the areas where it supplies drinking water.
Severn Trent has not introduced any restrictions for its customers, although it is urging people to use water wisely during the continuing hot weather.
Harborough councillor Sarah Hill was among those who received one of the messages and said it caused confusion.

Severn Trent says demand for water has reached record levels during the recent hot spell.
The company said it experienced its highest-ever day of water use on Saturday, surpassing previous records set during the 2022 drought and the coronavirus pandemic.
Almost 2.4 billion litres of water were used in a single day – around 400 million litres more than normal, the equivalent of 700 million pints.
Despite the increased demand, Severn Trent has not announced plans to introduce a hosepipe ban and continues to encourage customers to use water carefully wherever possible.
Anglian Water has been approached for comment.
