Warning After Deliberate Fire at Market Harborough Recreation Ground

A warning has been issued after a deliberately started fire at Symington’s Recreation Ground in Market Harborough.

Firefighters were called to the park off St Mary’s Road shortly before 9pm last night after a pile of tree branches was set alight.

The people believed to be responsible had left the area before crews arrived, and the blaze was quickly extinguished.

Following the incident, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service is urging people to take extra care during the current spell of warm, dry weather.

A spokesperson said: “We urge the public to take extra care with campfires, barbecues, bonfires, cigarettes and anything else that could spread to larger fires, especially during warm, dry weather.”

Anyone who sees suspicious behaviour or deliberately lit fires is urged to report it to Leicestershire Police.
