21 Appear in Court Over Alleged Gartree Smuggling

21 people including a former prison officer have appeared in court in connection with an alleged smuggling operation at HMP Gartree near Market Harborough.

The charges follow an investigation by detectives from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit’s Regional Prison Intelligence Unit into the alleged supply of cannabis and mobile phones into the prison between June and October 2022.

Among those charged is Jamie Speirs, 30, of Stowe Drive, Rugby, who was a serving prison officer at HMP Gartree at the time of the alleged offences.

Speirs faces one charge of misconduct in a public office, two counts of conspiracy to supply a Class B drug and two counts of conspiracy to convey a List B prohibited article into a prison.

The other 20 defendants are each charged with one count of conspiracy to supply a Class B drug and one count of conspiracy to convey a List B prohibited article into a prison.

They are:

  • Tinisha Lindsay, 34, of Haydon Way, Wandsworth, London
  • Cori Lindsey, 32, of HMP Aylesbury
  • Daiva Maciuliene, 52, of Wilberforce Road, Wisbech
  • Sarunas Maciulis, 28, of HMP Gartree
  • Carl Madigan, 31, of HMP Garth
  • Raimundas Matusevicius, 47, of Wilberforce Road, Wisbech
  • Sean Mercer, 35, of HMP Manchester
  • Suleman Mohamed, 29, of HMP Gartree
  • Jesimiel Morris, 38, of Glendale Avenue, Leicester
  • Carleto Salmons, 43, of HMP Gartree
  • Valdas Stanevicius, 46, of Wilberforce Road, Wisbech
  • Kelly Waldron, 54, of St Margarets Way, Leicester
  • Rebecca Wallace, 39, of Mallard Walk, Beckenham, Kent
  • Carly Wilcox, 37, of Longfellow Green, Kidderminster, Worcestershire.

No pleas were entered during the hearing at Leicester Magistrates’ Court and all 21 defendants have been sent to Leicester Crown Court, where they are due to appear on July 29.
