Plans for Welland Park’s new events arena set for approval

A plan to transform part of Welland Park into a new community events arena is set to be approved.

Harborough District Council is proposing to refurbish the disused pavilion and convert the former bowling green into a flexible space for events.

The project, costing just under £800,000, would create a venue for activities such as outdoor theatre, food and drink festivals, and community events.

Cabinet members are being asked to approve the capital budget for the scheme and plans to appoint contractors to deliver the work.

If given the go-ahead, the pavilion will undergo a full “back-to-brick” refurbishment, including structural repairs, a new roof, improved drainage, and the creation of an open-plan hall with modern facilities and accessible toilets.

Meanwhile, the former bowling green will be adapted into an events space, with improved pathways, lighting infrastructure, power and water supplies for vendors, and additional screening to reduce noise and visual impact.

The council says the project will support a programme of year-round events, helping the park reach its commercial and community potential.

If approved at a meeting next week, construction is expected to begin later this year, with the space potentially hosting a ‘Winter Wonderland’ style launch event in November, followed by a formal pavilion opening in early 2027.
