Lidl Given Green Light for New Bushby Store

Planning permission has been granted for a new Lidl supermarket in Bushby, paving the way for around 40 new jobs.
Harborough District Council approved the development on land north of Uppingham Road, just off the A47 and east of Zouche Way, at a meeting last night.

The proposal attracted significant opposition, with more than 90 objections submitted and some residents describing the scheme as a “monstrosity” and “low budget”, raising concerns about the design and the potential impact on existing shops.
However, there was also notable support for the development, with 34 residents backing the plans.
Supporters said the new supermarket would bring greater choice to the area and boost local employment.
Andrew Hodgkinson, Regional Head of Property at Lidl GB said: “We are delighted that Harborough Council’s Planning Committee has approved our new store on Uppingham Road in Bushby. The proposals received strong backing from the local community, with over 750 local residents (88% of respondents) supporting the plans during consultation. We would like to thank local politicians for backing our plans which will increase local shopping choice, provide our high quality and affordable products, and create up to 40 new jobs.
“We look forward to delivering this much-needed new supermarket for Bushby and will keep the community updated as the development progresses”.
