Safety Fears As Parts of A14 Resemble ‘Surface Of The Moon’

Drivers have likened parts of the A14 to the surface of the moon due to an increasing number of potholes.
They say the problem is particularly bad on the westbound carriageway from junction one at Welford to the M1/M6 junction, with further complaints in the Rothwell and Kelmarsh areas.
One motorist told HFM: “The road is in a desperate state in places and better resembles the surface of the moon.
“Drivers are swerving around some of these holes, creating a serious safety hazard.”

Many say they reported the defects to National Highways, but repairs had not yet been carried out.
The stretch of the road is already known as an accident blackspot, with several collisions in recent months.
A National Highways spokesperson said: “We are aware of this issue on the A14 and have begun repairing sections this week.
“There are plans for further repairs to the road and for a more permanent solution in the long term.
“We thank drivers for their patience and understanding.”
