Final Campaigning Ahead Of Local Elections

Written by on 30th April 2025

It’s the final day of campaigning for candidates standing in local elections across the HFM region.

Residents will go to the polls tomorrow to elect councillors to represent them on Leicestershire County Council, North Northamptonshire Council and West Northamptonshire Council.

Town and parish council elections are also taking place in Northamptonshire.

Polling stations will be open between 7am and 10pm and you will need to show an acceptable form of photo ID to vote.

In Leicestershire, the Conservatives, Labour, Liberal Democrats, Green Party and Reform UK have candidates standing in all seven areas of the Harborough district and the Communist Party of Britain is also fielding a candidate in one division.

Leicestershire County Council has been controlled by the Conservatives since 2001 and is responsible for roads and transport, social care, education, libraries, waste management and trading standards.

The Northamptonshire councils have the same responsibilities but also provide bins collections, planning and environmental health services and parks maintenance.

Both North and West Northamptonshire councils have also been run by the Conservatives since the unitary authorities launched in 2021.
