ATM Fraudster Jailed After Caught Red-Handed

A fraudster caught red-handed placing money trapping devices on ATM machines in Market Harborough has been jailed for nearly two years.

Bogdan Gasparov was arrested after plain-clothed police officers deployed to the town centre on February 15th, having received information cash points outside Lloyds and Santander banks were being tampered with.

They discovered the devices and found the 45-year-old in possession of over £400, believed to have been trapped by the mechanisms as people were attempting to withdraw cash.

Gasparov, of Hardie Road, Dagenham, Essex, pleaded guilty to to possessing/controlling an article for use in fraud at Leicester Crown Court and was jailed for 22 months.

Inspector Liz Perry, Neighbourhood Policing Commander for Harborough and Wigston, has welcomed the sentence.

She said: “This is a fantastic example of local businesses and the public working together – police officers in plain clothes deployed to the location having received information that someone was tampering with the cash point, and caught Gasparov red handed!”
