Tributes Paid To Couple Who Died In Cable Car Crash

Tributes have been paid to a couple from Market Harborough who died in a cable car crash while on holiday in Italy.

Elaine Winn, 58, who worked as Business Manager at Welland Park Academy, tragically died alongside her husband Graeme, 65, near Naples on Thursday.

Numerous tributes have been paid to the couple on Facebook and the school has described Elaine as a ‘much-loved and highly respected member of the school community’.

A spokesperson for Welland Park Academy said: “Elaine’s professionalism, warmth, and unwavering dedication to school life touched the lives of students, staff, and families alike.

“She gave so much to the school beyond her role, and many students will have fond memories of her from the school trips she supported over the years.

“The care and kindness she showed to everyone in our community means her loss will be felt deeply by us all.

“We are currently supporting our staff and preparing to support our students as they return from the Easter break.

“Plans are also being made to commemorate Elaine’s life in a meaningful way within the school.

“We kindly ask that the privacy of Elaine’s family, and that of our school community, be respected as we come to terms with this loss.”

Mr and Mrs Winn were among four people who died in the incident, which officials say happened after a cable snapped at the top of a near-two mile route that connects the seaside town of Castellammare di Stabia, near the Amalfi Coast, with a nearby mountain.

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office has said it is supporting the families of Mr and Mrs Winn and are in touch with the local authorities in Italy, who have opened an investigation into the cause of the incident.
