Floral Tributes After Cable Car Tragedy

Floral tributes have been placed outside Welland Park Academy as people continue to pay their respects to a Market Harborough couple who died in a cable car crash in Italy.

Elaine Winn worked as the school’s business manager and was tragically killed alongside her husband Graeme, while on holiday near Naples last Thursday.

The couple, aged 58 and 65, have been described by friends as ‘lovely people living life to the full’.

Paying tribute, Welland Park Academy said Mrs Winn’s professionalism, warmth, and unwavering dedication to school life touched the lives of students, staff, and families alike.

The school is supporting staff and preparing to support students when they return from their Easter break next week.

Mr and Mrs Winn were keen motorcyclists and members of the club they belonged to met in Foxton on Sunday to pay tribute to them.

Cllr Phil Knowles, leader of the ruling coalition at Harborough District Council has also paid tribute to the couple.

He said: “On behalf of Harborough District Council, all councillors and staff, our condolences, thoughts and prayers are with the friends and family of Elaine and Graeme.

“It’s difficult to image how hard this will be for them to cope with. It is a real shock.

“We also have in our thoughts the others who were involved in the accident. The others who lost their lives. The officials and teams who attended and the people of, and near the seaside town of Castellammare di Stabia, near the Amalfi Coast who will be deeply saddened by what’s happened.”

The couple were among four people killed in the crash and an investigation into the cause is continuing.
