“Free” VE Day Street Parties Promised!
Written by HFM News on 6th March 2025
As more details about national events in celebration of the 80th anniversary of VE Day are announced, residents in the Harborough District are going to be able to “street party” for free!
It’s because Leicestershire County Council has announced the usual fees for road closures between the 8th and 11th of May will be waived for residents who wish to get together to celebrate eighty years since the end of the Second World War in Europe.
The authority is suspending its charges – ranging between £400 and £650 – to encourage communities and groups in our towns and villages to organise special VE Day events and parties down their street.
The County Council’s deadline to apply for a free road closure is Friday the 21st of March.
