New Aldi On-Target For Autumn Opening

A new Aldi supermarket in Market Harborough is on-target to open in the autumn.

Work to build the £5m store on Rockingham Road is progressing at pace, with the shell of the building now in place.

The discount retailer is spending £5m on the development and will re-locate to the larger premises from its current base on Springfield Street.

Around 15 new jobs will be created when the new store opens on the former Glenmere Timber site, at the junction with Gores Lane, together with a 129-space car park.

Aldi previously said: “The development of our new Market Harborough store is a multi-million investment in the town and will create jobs in the construction phase as well as additional permanent jobs in the new store.

“Existing colleagues at our Market Harborough store will transfer to the new store on opening.”

As revealed by HFM, Marks and Spencer has ruled out opening in the current Aldi premises when it becomes vacant.

The retailer placed the town on a ‘wish list’ of locations where it would like to open a food store, but says there are no plans to take on the Springfield Street site.
