Written by HFM News on 25th November 2024
Residents were evacuated and rescued after major flooding in Little Bowden last night.
The River Jordan burst its banks in the Rectory Lane area at around 7pm, with over 20 properties affected by flood water up to two feet deep, including the Cherry Tree pub.
Firefighters used a dinghy to help get people to safety as the area was left cut-off, with deep water blocking roads in and out.

Heavy rain caused by Storm Burt saw the River Jordan rise to a record level of 1.8m and the Environment Agency issued an ‘Act Now’ Flood Warning.
Resident Paul Parker spoke to HFM last night:
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue service say 23 properties on Rectory Lane and Kettering Road were affected by flood water, ranging from inches to two feet of water.
A spokesperson told HFM “Five people were evacuated from these properties, and a further 57 individuals chose to remain in their homes.
“Two people were rescued from a vehicle stranded in the flood water, and another person self-extricated from a separate stranded vehicle.
“All those evacuated and rescued were pronounced fit and well.
“Drivers are reminded not to attempt to drive through flood waters if they cannot see the road surface beneath the water – if you encounter a flooded road, always seek an alternative route.”
