No ‘Banking Hub’ Until Town Has No Banks

Market Harborough will not be considered for a ‘banking hub’ until the town is left with no banks.
There have been calls for the facility following the closure of three branches in the past 18 months and the forthcoming closure of Lloyds in December.

Banking hubs allow customers of different banks which have closed to continue to access ‘face-to-face’ services and one opened in Lutterworth earlier this year.
Harborough District Council has been told by operator LINK that Market Harborough does not currently fit the criteria to be considered as a location for such a hub, as evenwhen Lloyds Bank closes, Santander and Nationwide will remain open in the town along with Market Harborough Building Society.
The banks which have closed have blamed a reduction in in-person transactions, with more people opting to use on-line and mobile banking.
Cllr Phil Knowles, Leader of Harborough District Council, told HFM the current criteria for the hubs is a concern:
