Heart Screenings in Market Harborough

Young people are being screened for hidden heart conditions in Market Harborough today.

Harborough Town Football Club has teamed up with charity Cardiac Risk In The Young (CRY) to host the sessions, following similar previous events.

The importance of the screenings was highlighted after a check on a teenage boy last year revealed he had a serious heart condition.

Siobhan Brewin from the club explained more to HFM:

At least 12 young people die of undiagnosed heart conditions every week in the UK and one in every 300 of the young people that CRY tests will be identified with a potentially life threatening condition.

100 checks are being carried during the course of today, with many of the football club’s youth players being screened.
