Work Starts To Remove Dangerous Concrete From Market Harborough School

Work has started today to remove dangerous concrete from a Market Harborough primary school.
The four-month project will see a new roof installed above the hall and kitchen at St Joseph’s Catholic Academy on Coventry Road.
Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) – which is liable to collapse – was identified last September and both areas have been out of use ever since.
The Department for Education is funding the cost of the work, which is around half-a-million pounds.

Pupils continue to have had to eat lunches in classrooms and together with staff have been praised for their resilience.
A small part of the playground will be closed off during the works to house storage containers, but there will be no disruption to the rest of the school building during the works.
