Community Garden To Be Created In Bookshop’s Courtyard

Quinns Bookshop in Market Harborough is teaming up with Ridgeway Primary Academy to create a new community garden in its courtyard.

Pupils will play a big part in the eco-project, which will launch with a gardening day this Sunday.

It is hoped many of the plants to be part of the garden at the shop off the High Street will also have a link to childhood books.

Funding has been secured to help fund materials and many of the plants have been donated.

Head of School at Ridgeway Primary Academy, Dave Turner, said, “We are delighted to have been offered this opportunity by Quinns and we know our children are already brimming with some great eco ideas on using recycled and donated materials; not to mention the list of plants they want to include – some will have links to their favourite books or characters, like Jack and the Beanstalk or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, while others will support wildlife and be perfect for pollinators.

“It really will be a garden full of ideas and stories. The children will make regular visits to help maintain the garden, while visitors to the shop will be encouraged to help water or deadhead as they’re passing.”

The first community Gardening Day is taking place between 9am-12pm this Sunday and any volunteers are welcome to go along to help.
