Delight For Drivers As Roadworks Completed Early

There is good news for drivers today as work to replace traffic lights on one of Market Harborough’s busiest roads was completed early.
The new signals on Springfield Street have been switched on today at the entrance to the Sainsbury’s car park.
Temporary lights which had been in place for the past fortnight had caused traffic chaos, including gridlock in the car park leaving motorists stranded for up to an hour at busy times.

Leicestershire County Council say the new lights have lower energy consumption, which in turn will reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
A spokesperson added: “The traffic signal equipment in Springfield Street is being replaced as part of our renewal programme.
“Traffic signal installations generally have a ‘design life’ of approximately 15-20 years, after which it is standard practice to replace them to reduce maintenance costs and fault occurrences, as well as improving the reliability and efficiency of the lights.”
The work was originally scheduled to take three weeks.
