Flood Alert Issued For River Welland

A Flood Alert has been issued for the River Welland and its tributaries after the heavy rain from Storm Babet led to water levels rising.

The Environment Agency says flooding is likely in low-lying areas and on roads close to the river.

The alert also covers the River Jordan from Braybrooke to Market Harborough.

The Flood Alert area includes the Welland Valley and River Jordan from Braybrooke to Stamford, including Braybrooke, Market Harborough, Welham, Harringworth, and Stamford.

Also, tributaries of the River Welland affecting Medbourne, Great Easton, Caldecott, Oakham and Ketton.

Emergency services are urging drivers not to attempt to drive through flood water.

Leicestershire County Council’s highways teams have received over 30 reports of flooding or fallen trees and have had nine crews out and about responding

Around 10 roads are closed in the county and flooding is affecting a number in the Harborough District, including around Medbourne and Lubenham.
