Major Traffic Survey Underway Across Harborough

Written by on 17th October 2023

Mobile cameras are being used as part of a major traffic survey in and around Market Harborough.

Automatic counters have also been placed beside roads to record vehicle movements as part of the work by Leicestershire County Council.

The data gathered will be used to provide evidence in funding bids for new transport schemes and when commenting on planning applications.

Surveys are being carried out on Rockingham Road as part of the work

A council spokesperson told HFM: “The traffic surveys are part of a countywide data collection exercise which has been running throughout 2023.

The programme has approximately 1,400 survey locations across Leicester, Leicestershire and even across the border into neighbouring counties.

“The data are primarily used for the construction of the environment and transport department’s transport model, which in turn is used to manage planning applications, test the impacts of transport policies, develop transport schemes, as the evidence base for funding bids etc.

“The data can also be used to support road safety schemes, improve the efficiency of junctions, and support pedestrian and cycling infrastructure among other things.”
