The building of large new business park on the outskirts of Market Harborough has moved a step closer.

Harborough District Council has issued planning consent for the development on 25 acres of farmland off the B6047 Leicester Road, which has the potential to create 1,000 jobs.

Planning permission was granted earlier this year and the council has now signed-off the scheme, following the completion of a Section 106 Agreement, which details developer contributions for infrastructure improvements.

The development will comprise of 450,000 sq ft of industrial, warehousing and office units and will be built on the parcel of land between Leicester Road and Gallow Field Road, along with a drive-through coffee shop and restaurant.

The site of the new business park

A number of farm buildings will be demolished to make-way for the business park.

In a salute to its heritage, the scheme will be known as Wellington Business Park, as the site historically formed part of the airfield  used by the RAF in World War II and was home to the Wellington Bombers of No. 14 Operational Training Unit of RAF Bomber Command.

Richard Baker, Director at commercial property firm Prop-Search, which is marketing the new business park, said: “Demand across the Midlands is not easing up as occupiers compete for the limited space available within the ‘Golden Triangle’.”

“We have received a significant amount of interest in the site for a variety of uses and I am delighted to be able to properly engage with interested parties now that the Section 106 has been signed and planning consent granted”.

“Wellington Business Park undoubtedly represents an exciting opportunity to meet this occupier demand, creating business opportunities and bringing inward investment into the town.  We look forward to engaging with local, regional and national businesses seeking new premises within Market Harborough and this Golden Triangle location.”
