Villagers Lose Fight For New Shops In Fleckney

Developers have been given the go-ahead to build new homes instead of shops in the centre of Fleckney, despite opposition from villagers.

The retail units were part of an already approved plan for an area off the High Street, but last night’s meeting of Harborough District Council’s planning committee heard there was no legal requirement for them to be included.

Residents argued new shops are badly needed, because of the large number of new homes built in Fleckney in recent years.

A petition signed by over 50 villagers and 42 objection letters were sent to the District Council ahead of the meeting and the Parish Council also objected.

The revision to the original plan, to instead build eight semi-detached houses, was approved after five councillors voted in favour of it and four against.
