Work is getting underway to build 350 new homes on the edge of Market Harborough.

Persimmon Homes will construct the houses on 36 acres of fields off Eady Drive, between Northampton Road and the Brampton Valley Way.

The developer has just completed the purchase of the land, after getting the go-ahead for the new estate two years ago.

A mix of two to five-bedroomed homes will go up, with 128 to be handed to a housing association, to provide a mix of rented and shared ownership properties.

A condition of the planning permission will see Persimmon paying £5.7m towards improving community facilities in the town, including more than £2.1m towards local education, £1.7m towards the enhancement of Market Harborough town centre, and over £472,000 towards outdoor sports improvements.

The new estate will be known as ‘The Hawthorns’ and Zac Hurst, managing director for Persimmon Homes Midlands, said: “This is a hugely exciting development that will not only generate significant job opportunities throughout the lifespan of the project but will also leave lasting community benefits.”
