Police Commissioner Voices ‘Serious Concerns’ After 999 Failure

Leicestershire’s Police and Crime Commissioner has written letters to the government and BT voicing serious concern about the failure of the 999 service.
The system went down across the country for different length of times on June 25th and in Leicestershire was unavailable for over two hours.
During the outage, the force urged people to instead call 101 if they needed the emergency services.

The cause of the problems with the 999 service remains unclear, but the issues persisted even after BT switched to a back-up system.
Rupert Matthews has written to Chris Philp, Minister of State for Crime, Policing and Fire and Ed Stainton, Director of Major Government at BT Enterprise and told HFM he is seeking assurances the issue won’t happen again:
