Work is continuing to repair a gas leak on Springfield Street in Market Harborough – the third one on the road this year.

The issue at the Springfield Court junction has resulted in the stretch of road between the Sainsbury’s car park entrance and Northampton Road being closed to traffic since yesterday.

Cadent Gas hope the road will be fully re-open sometime tomorrow, once work is complete and investigations carried out, to ensure all leaks have been identified.

A spokesman for the utility company told HFM: “I can confirm that we have had multiples leaks on this road, all being quite small but all requiring to be worked on quite rapidly.

“We have managed to change the traffic controls from a full road closure like last time to a one way closure keeping traffic flowing a lot better.

“Cadent engineers have been working to resolve the issue and are hoping to have the road fully back open on Wednesday.

“We are currently carrying out a thorough investigation to make sure we have cured all the leaks on this stretch to alleviate any future issues.

“Of course, we fully understand the inconvenience that this causes to road users and residents and, as such, we thank them for their patience and understanding as we seek to carry out these works as safely and as quickly as possible.”
