Coalition Officially Takes Control Of Harborough District Council

A coalition made up of the Liberal Democrats, Labour and Green parties has officially taken control of Harborough District Council.
The power-sharing arrangement was ratified at last night’s annual council meeting, with Lib Dem councillor Phil Knowles elected as new council leader.
The agreement came after the authority was left in no overall control following the local elections, which saw the Conservatives lose their majority.

The Green party is represented on the council for the first time, with three councillors elected in the Welland ward of Market Harborough.
One of them, Cllr Darren Woodiwiss, told HFM what they will bring to the table:
The Conservatives remain the largest single group on the council, but now form the opposition.
Group leader, Cllr Jonathan Bateman spoke to HFM:
Cllr Barbara Johnson was elected as the new Chair of the council for the next year, replacing Cllr Neil Bannister.
She has chosen the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance as her chosen charity for the year.
