Business Park Plan Rejected Over Traffic Safety Concerns

Plans to build a new business park on the outskirts of Market Harborough have been refused over concerns about traffic safety.

The scheme for seven office, business and industrial units was earmarked for land between the B6047 Leicester Road and the Grand Union Canal.

Planners at Harborough District Council say vehicles entering and exiting the development, which would have been near the Forest Gate garage, would have created a danger to road users.

A document detailing the reason for planning permission being rejected says: “This proposal, if permitted, would lead to an intensification of vehicular movements turning onto and off the B6047 Leicester Road, which is a busy high-speed road, where the turning manoeuvres could be an additional source of danger to road users, which is not in the interests of highway safety.

“The applicant has failed to demonstrate that a safe and suitable vehicular access to the site can be achieved for all highway users and if permitted could result in the creation of an access which lacks appropriate visibility for the speed of traffic, which is not in the interests of highway safety.”
